we all have basic needs like food, air, and water to survive. The food we eat can have a huge impact on our overall well-being, affecting our physical strength, cognitive abilities, mental capacity, and emotional state. It’s really important that we take good care of ourselves by being mindful of what we eat and making healthy choices. That’s why doctors often emphasize the need for a balanced diet. However, in recent times, significant changes have occurred in our food habits along with our lifestyle. Among these, the practices we follow in consuming food have led to diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, sugar, heart diseases, and even dangerous cancers.

Let’s learn about 8 foods that can potentially cause cancer….

8 Cancer Causing Foods

1) Late-night meals

Many people, driven by their cravings, consume foods like biryani and cool drinks late at night. This habit can increase the risk of dangerous cancers such as gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, and stomach cancer. Furthermore, the carbohydrates and sugars present in cool drinks can exacerbate the risk of cancer. Therefore, it’s advisable to avoid foods like biryani and cool drinks after 7 PM.

2) Foods that are excessively fried in oil

Foods fried in oil are often very tasty to eat. In this process, many people enjoy eating things like potato chips, French fries, and popcorn. However, few people notice that these foods can also increase the risk of cancer. Indeed, these potato chips, French fries, and popcorn contain a large amount of carcinogens. They also contain a neurotoxic compound called acrylamide. These substances can induce oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis. Not only that, but acrylamide also impacts cell DNA. Therefore, by avoiding these overcooked foods, one can potentially protect themselves from the risk of cancer.

3) Grilled Meat Consumption

Not everyone enjoys consuming meat, it’s said. Yet, some people relish meat in the form of soups or grilled dishes, and also as biryani, among other varieties. However, the excessive consumption of grilled meat can increase the risk of various types of cancer such as colon cancer, colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, and stomach cancer. Moreover, grilling meat at high temperatures can lead to the formation of cancer-causing substances like Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons and heterocyclic amines. These substances can induce changes in DNA and thus, increase the risk of cancer.

4) Excessive Consumption of Dairy Products

In cities, people often rely on dairies for a large portion of their milk products. However, a recent survey revealed that those who consume dairy products excessively are more likely to suffer from prostate and colorectal cancers. Dairy products like milk, curd, and butter can lead to an increase in the release of IGF-1, an insulin growth factor 1 hormone, which is a known carcinogen. This IGF-1 hormone can also accelerate the growth of cancer cells and tumors. Therefore, medical experts are advising against the excessive consumption of dairy products.

5) Preserved Foods

In recent times, the tradition of consuming preserved foods has significantly increased among many people. This practice, which has been adopted from Western countries, has also led to an increase in cancer cases. However, during the process of preserving these foods, chemicals such as monosodium glutamate, sodium nitrate, and guar gum, among others, are added to vegetables and meats. These chemicals can trigger reactions that damage cell DNA. As a result, there is a risk of developing harmful cancers such as pancreatic, stomach, and colon cancer. Therefore, it is not advisable to regularly consume these preserved foods.

6) Processed Foods

Processed Foods

In recent times, the consumption of processed foods has significantly increased. In our daily lives, we use processed foods like refined flour, lentil flour, sweet corn, processed red meat, and many others. These foods can contribute to an increased risk of cancer. During the processing, chemicals such as benzoate, benzoic acid, nitrates, sulfates, sodium sorbate, and potassium sorbate are mixed in. These chemicals can stimulate the growth of cancer cells in our body and can also lead to various other diseases.

7) Alcohol Consumption – Smoking

In this modern era, many young people are getting habituated to consuming alcohol and smoking from a very young age. This not only increases the risk of lung cancer, but also the chances of head and neck cancers, colon cancers, pancreas, kidney, and liver cancers, among almost 18 types of cancers. Therefore, temporary mental pleasures derived from habits like smoking and drinking can potentially lead to life-threatening dangers. Hence, it is crucial to stay away from these harmful habits.

8) Incompatible Foods

However, some people mix multiple foods for the sake of taste. Doctors warn that doing so can also damage cells and pose a risk of cancer. In particular, consuming meat products mixed with dairy, as well as processed foods mixed with leafy vegetables, and preserved foods, is extremely dangerous. Therefore, we must avoid these incompatible foods.
